Q18 • What is the difference between a certified translator and a non-certified translator?

In some cases, not much. There are some very good non-certified translators out there, and there are some mediocre certified translators. However, in most cases, certified translators take their profession seriously and do not see it as simply a way to make money. They have taken the time to have their translation skills tested by an authority (usually a translation association or government agency), and, once these skills have been recognized, are more likely to provide quality work. As well, translators with the title of certified translator are bound by a code of ethics and confidentiality.
